Ceres commends the public support from 21 Republican members of Congress, led by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), for preserving the energy tax credits that are driving American energy dominance and unlocking hundreds of billions of dollars of investment in communities across the nation. In a letter sent to House Speaker Mike Johnson today, lawmakers emphasized the vast benefits the tax credits have delivered to the U.S. manufacturing base and energy production, while reducing costs for American businesses and consumers.Â
"Businesses across industries and states recognize that federal clean economy incentives are driving investment and delivering widespread benefits — revitalizing U.S. manufacturing, enhancing energy security, and lowering costs for businesses and families,” said Zach Friedman, senior director, federal policy, Ceres. “Clean energy tax credits have a long history of bipartisan support, and the long-term certainty they provide are necessary to meeting rising energy demand while keeping rates low, creating new jobs, and bolstering domestic supply chains — ensuring American industry thrives and outcompetes China. At this pivotal moment for U.S. energy and tax policy, we appreciate the commitment to preserving these essential incentives.”Â
The letter comes after 80 major companies took to Capitol Hill last week to meet with Republican lawmakers as part of LEAD on a Clean Economy to advocate for maintaining the energy and manufacturing tax credits and demonstrate the immense economic, financial, and national security impact of reliable, affordable, and American-made clean energy. Participating companies included Carrier, Danone, DHL, dsm-firmenich, Ecolab, Ford Motor Co., Franklin Energy, Heirloom Carbon, HASI, Holcim, IKEA US, Lucid, Lutron, Michelin, Schneider Electric, Sealed, Siemens, and Workday, among others.Â
In August 2024, 18 Republican members of Congress sent a similar letter to Speaker Johnson, urging leaders to maintain the clean energy tax credits. Today’s letter signals growing Republican support from members across the U.S., with 14 returning signatories reaffirming their stance and seven new members joining the call to ensure their districts continue benefiting from these vital incentives.Â
