Silda Wall Spitzer brings a professional career that spans the public, private and nonprofit sectors with expertise in problem-solving, structuring and negotiating complex transactions, sustainability, strategic planning, development, corporate law, community engagement, and entrepreneurism.
At NewWorld Capital Group, a private equity firm investing in environmental opportunities (energy efficiency, clean energy, water, waste-to-value and environmental products and services) in both growth equity and infrastructure project finance, Silda focused primarily on business development and deal origination for both strategies, and supported the Firm's portfolio companies. She was also a member of the NewWorld Infrastructure Team.
Before joining NewWorld, Silda led strategic and business development as a Managing Director at Metropolitan Capital Advisors, a women-owned investment firm.
Silda also served as First Lady of New York State. In that role, she worked to support the Administration's goal of reducing fossil energy consumption 15% by 2015 with her initiatives promoting green buildings, alternative energy, and local food sourcing. Her "I LIVE NY" program engaged constituents to create livable communities and sustainable jobs. Silda subsequently co-founded, and continues as CEO/Publisher of NewYorkStatesOfMind.com, the first private digital marketplace and magazine for the State.
A practicing attorney for a decade, Silda gained substantial skills having practiced M&A and corporate finance law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom and later at Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., where she structured and negotiated complex transactions.
Silda's current environmentally-related nonprofit endeavors include serving as Vice Chair of the Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which advances sustainability in the urban built environment. She is also on the Advisory Board of The Sustainable Endowments Institute.
A frequent invited speaker and panelist on topics related to environmental opportunities, impact investing, and sustainability, Silda has co-authored several essays, including "Impact Investing: Trading Up, Not Trading Off" and "The Pleasures and Perils of Private Company Investing". Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Economic Club of New York, and the New York State and City Bar Associations, Silda holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA summa cum laude and an Honorary Doctorate from Meredith College.
Above all, Silda is the grateful mother of three daughters, who will inherit the world we leave them.
