Nako leads the development of company and issue research that informs investor signatories of Ceres'Â Food Emissions 50Â initiative, with a focus on driving corporate actions on emissions from agriculture and land use change which often make up the majority of food companies' emissions. In this position, Nako has authored several reports, including the recent Investor Guide to Climate Transition Plans in the U.S. Food Sector, which outlines recommendations for investor engagement on corporate climate transition plans that align food companies' businesses with their GHG emissions reduction targets.
Nako came to Ceres in January 2020 with academic expertise in sustainable agriculture through her graduate and undergraduate coursework. An avid writer, she was the co-editor of her graduate school’s online food and nutrition newspaper. Prior to joining Ceres full-time, she was the Agricultural Water Risk intern on the Water team. She has also interned for sustainability offices at two different academic institutions and has worked and volunteered on farms and a vineyard.
Nako has an MS in Agriculture, Food, and Environment from Tufts University, and a BA in Anthropology from Connecticut College. She speaks English, Japanese, and French.Â
