Benjamin Jacobson supports the water team’s research under the Valuing Water Finance Initiative. Benjamin will focus on enhancing the water program’s efforts to protect freshwater from the impacts of agriculture, with an emphasis on influencing companies to improve their water stewardship and the sustainability of their agricultural supply chains.
Prior to joining Ceres, Benjamin worked for several environmental regulatory agencies including the South Florida Water Management District, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and Edwards Aquifer Authority in San Antonio, Texas. In those roles he focused on hydrogeology, analyzing data on water use trends and inefficiencies, and stakeholder education on water use, rights and regulation.
Before entering the public sector Benjamin worked in agriculture and food production, including vineyards and wineries in Northern California. The water scarcity he experienced in his food production career inspired him to pursue his graduate degree concentrating on the water-agriculture nexus.
Benjamin holds both a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Systems Management with a Business Minor, and a Master of Water Management from Texas A&M University. He is a graduate of the Texas Water Foundation’s inaugural class of Texas Water Leaders.
