The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures has today published its final recommendations for nature-related risk management and disclosure. In a statement, Leslie Cordes, Ceres vice president of programs, said: Â
“It is incredibly important for companies to assess and disclose their nature-related impacts, including dependencies, risks, and opportunities. Such disclosures allow investors and the public to understand how companies are acting to address nature loss. The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures recommendations will go a long way in improving company disclosure on nature and will help enable investors to hold companies accountable for minimizing and managing their impacts on nature.Â
We are also pleased that the final framework also includes a new disclosure recommendation that encourages companies to disclose their nature-related human rights impacts and strategies, with a particular focus on Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. Recognizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the role of local communities in effectively conserving and managing nature is critical. This focus in stakeholder engagements is an essential component of corporate nature action that is consistent with what Ceres calls for through our Nature Action 100 initiative.” Â
Ceres serves as the convener of the U.S. Consultative Group for the Taskforce for Nature-related Finance Disclosures. Ceres also co-leads the Secretariat and Corporate Engagement Working Group for Nature Action 100, a global investor-led engagement initiative focused on driving greater corporate ambition and action on nature loss. Â
“The Nature Action 100 Investor Expectations for Companies released earlier this year align with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures recommendations for corporate disclosure on nature. Nature Action 100 will continue to work to stay aligned with these recommendations to ensure that companies are receiving clear and consistent messages about nature action. We look forward to our work with both ground-breaking initiatives in the year ahead to further catalyze the necessary ambition and action on nature loss.”Â
