INCR Climate Solutions Investment Opportunities
INCR members have contributed to a resource that addresses climate solutions investment opportunities. This informational resource for institutional investors provides illustrative examples of investment opportunities across asset classes. The “climate focused” investment products offered by members come in three categories:
- Clean Energy: investments that directly contribute to the transition to a clean energy economy, and contribute to the “Clean Trillion" (i.e., investments in companies or projects principally involved in pure play renewable energy, energy efficiency or efficient transport activities). Examples include: direct renewable energy project investments, renewable energy funds, green bonds financing renewable energy projects, shares of renewable energy companies or yieldcos.
- Climate Solutions: investments that are climate friendly and contribute to mitigating GHG emissions but are not fully “Clean Trillion” eligible (i.e., investments in companies or projects involved in broadly defined “clean technology” activities, including advanced energy technologies, energy efficiency, energy storage, enhanced materials or novel/breakthrough manufacturing processes). Examples include: clean tech VC funds, “climate solutions: equity funds, energy efficiency retrofit funds, REITs focused on green buildings.
- Low Carbon: investments that expressly aim to reduce carbon exposure (emissions or reserves) within portfolios. Examples include: low carbon index funds, low carbon active funds, “fossil free” funds.
